There was once a girl who lived a life of luxury and ease. “You’re your mother’s daughter,” people would tell her because she preferred to wander in the lush estate gardens rather than attend to her studies.

While lounging in the garden one morning she  found the intricately carved music box. No one seemed to know where it came from or who it belonged to. She was intrigued with the treasure she’d found, and would spend hours watching the little ballerina twirling on her pointed toes.

One day, returning from the gardens she loved so much, she stopped by her father’s office when she heard him speaking to another man. Her father was interviewing a prospective Captain for his newest ship.

He was a dashing young Spaniard, and her heart skipped a beat when her father introduced her to him.

“Encantado señorita.” he said with a brush of his lips to the back of her hand.

She fell wildly in love with him. All would have ended happily except that he had another love, a mistress she simply couldn’t compete with; after all, how does a mere human compete with the mystery and majesty of the open sea?

“I wish I could be like her, always carefree and dancing.” she said quietly. “Perhaps if was more like this little dancer, he would love me in return.”

What she didn’t know was that the little dancer had made a similar wish once, and had become a captive of the music box until she could be released by another wishing to take her place.

She lives in the music box now, but the girl’s dance is not the happy carefree dance of the previous dancer. Instead her dance is a dance of loss and despair. She dances still, waiting patiently for another to take her place inside the music box.

Be careful what you wish for.. sometimes they come true.

About the music box:

The music box is from Studio Sidhe. It includes colour change script and nine ballerina poses.. both twirling and stationary. You can watch a short youtube video of the box in action here.

This post is filled with random gifts and freebies – both new and old, most of the items shown below are recent freebies, but a couple are no longer available.

Shown above on the left is a camping gift from Umi Usagi. The jacket, shirt, short pants, and belt can be yours for a mere 90 minutes. The stockings are a past subscribe gift from Miel (still in notices!), and boots are a past gift from Nait Smith Designs. The boots are no longer available for free.. sorry. Hair is from JetDoll, skin is from GeEs (not free).

On the right, the focus is on all-out glamour with the Silver sequin gown from Paris Metro (DSN gift) and silver Khan slingbacks from Enkythings. The shoes are a new release, and Enktan Gully, owner of Enkythings, is giving them out for free for a limited time.

Shown above on the left are some cute in-store gifts from Aphrodite Creations. The shoes and tank top are available as free samples, just drop by and pick them up in the shop. The skirt is another great MM win from JetDoll. Seriously, the MM board at JetDoll has had some great prizes lately, you really should stop by and slap it.

On the right is a sweet ensemble from Pixel Dolls. Pixel Dolls has a 10L$ sale going on right now,  stop by and pick up some fantastic bargains on Pixel Doll goods that will soon be retired. The scarf and dress shown above were not free, but were so inexpensive it’s absolutely silly. The shoes were a past gift from Aphrodite Creations.

Although it’s cold here in northwest Florida, we can choose the climate we want in Second Life. Coming from the northeastern US (nope, I’m not a native Florida girl), it just doesn’t seem like Christmas to me if there isn’t snow on the ground.

But that doesn’t mean I need to freeze (even in the northeast), and the fashions I’m showing in this post are definitely hot.

Above is one of the gifts from Blacklace. There are two gift boxes in the shop, and one is filled with several gifts, including loungerie and those famously infamous Blacklace pants.

The fresh, “just in from playing in the snow” skin is from the GeEs Scandinavian line that I’m wearing almost exclusively lately. I love this line of skins! Hairstyle is from Calico Ingman Creations, and comes with the lights which are so much fun, and colour change. You can wear this style after the holidays too, because the lights can be taken off with a simple click of your mouse.

Still in the pink, the pretty ensemble shown above is one of the many, many wonderful gifts being showered upon visitors to Ho Wear. Stop by and pick them up while you still can.

The backdrop is an absolutely perfect waterfall setting from Pocket Gardens. The Castalia waterfall is so versatile. It comes in three sizes with a varying number of prims, and the flowers are colour change via menu. Also included are a hedge prim and alpha ground cover so that everything blends smoothly and seamlessly into your land (or skybox).

Above is one of the other gifts from Blacklace, while Hawk is showing us the December gift from Vitamen.

The green chaise is from Diesel Works, and it’s so versatile. This chaise is loaded with a ton of great poses. Hawk took a turn in the photographers chair (included) and played with it a while, and his comments were, in order, “Wow!” followed immediately by “Lot’s of poses!” (with an accompanying smile).

SD Wears has this sexy number as its prize in the Urban Shopper Candy Cane Hunt which runs through 31 December. It’s not a difficult hunt, and there are some really nice prizes.. so don’t miss it!

In the picture above, I’ve gone totally vintage with Christmas gifts from Ingenue, hair from Vignette, and the wonderful Bergen skin from GeEs.

The Sabrina dress in an icy hue was a Midnight Mania gift. The MM board in Ingenue has been changing featuring a variety of winter and holiday colour prizes; check in regularly so that you don’t miss a thing!

The Hounds-tooth Capelet and Cap are under the Christmas tree right inside the door.. you can’t miss it. Just mouse over the presents until you find the ones with gifts.

I love the Midnight Mania prizes at Grim Bros, I love Grim Bros. The clothes there are well made, unique, and very reasonably priced. If you run a little toward the Goth or Steampunk in your clothing tastes, the styles at Grim Bros are for you!

Above are the amazing Rock It Rudy antlers from the Grim Bros MM Gorilla. But that’s not all you can get, because after all, Grim Bros doesn’t have just any old MM board.. they have a Midnight Mania Gorilla. Be advised that the MM prizes change on a whim.. so the Gorilla might be holding some other special gift when you visit.

The hairstyle I’m wearing is called X-mas Anarchy, and it’s from Hairy Situations. I love the way this mohawk curls around to one side.. very pretty.

Skin is from Coquette in the pictures above and below. The Aurora II line comes with tintable brows, and an “enhanced” option that gives  cleavage like you won’t believe — perfect for those strapless evening gowns we’ll all be wearing to the parties this holiday season.

Next up is this festive ensemble from TeaLane, one of the vanguard shops in Second Life. TeaLane has been setting the standard for affordable fashions for longer than I have been in SL and is often one of the first stops for people new to the grid.

Shown above are two extremely reasonably priced items from TeaLane: the Elsa Sweater (there’s an Erik Sweater for guys too!), and the Recycle Dress (which comes with several stocking colour options). If you can’t afford the 2L$ a pop, not to worry, TeaLane has a lucky chair with the sweaters in a second holiday colour.

Hair shown above is from W&Y, but is available at Savoir Hair. Visit Savoir Hair for top quality dollarbie and freebie hairstyles.

One of my favourite things about the virtual world is being able to explore new places from the comfort of my studio, and last night I discovered a beautiful sim named Hikaru. The description of Hikaru said that it was a Buddhist-inspired sim.

This caught my attention because I had been searching for such a place to take a photo of the gown featured in this post.

The Snow Queen Gown, pictured above will make you feel like a princess while you dance the night away at those end of the year Holiday Balls. Ethereal and glittery, the Snow Queen Gown conjures images of fairy tale balls, elegant horse-drawn carriages, and a midnight kiss from your Prince Charming.

The Snow Queen gown retails for 900L$. This gives you two system skirt versions — beaded and diamond, the wonderful (and warm!) fur wrap, the voluminous prim skirt shown above, and more compliments than you can imagine.

Above is a very inexpensive dress that is perfectly suitable for the upcoming holiday parties. Babe is a flirty dress that will set you back a mere 10L$.

Last, but certainly not least, don’t forget to check the dollarbie Rosa dress in blue and Stephy in the lucky chair upstairs.

The skins shown in this post are from the GeEs new Scandinavian line. These skins have a fresh, “just came in from playing in the snow” look that I remember so well from my childhood in upstate New York. This is my favourite GeEs line of skins yet.

The hairstyle in the first picture is a group gift from Truth, in the second two pictures are new hairstyles from Creatives! (not free).

So, let’s see, that’s four great dress (one a sumptuous gown!) for less than 250L$ each if you pick up all four. Not a bad deal at all!

By the way, there are more great bargains at My Precious, but I wanted to leave a few surprises for you.

Autumn is my favourite season. Even in Florida there are mornings when we wake up to a chilly bite in the air. It warms during the course of the day, even in winter, but that autumn chill that we wake up to starting in October is very refreshing.. and very welcome.

There are lots of fashionable dollarbies and gifts in these pictures. Some of the items shown are oldies, some are new.. but all are goodies.

Starting with the picture above..

The shoes shown above are an old gift from Ztique, and are no longer available as a gift.  Button Me Up Socks are a recent subscribo gift from Doppleganger, and are too cute when combined with the dollarbie Simple Leggings from Concrete Flowers. Of course, we’ve all seen the cute Paine skirt from Lelutka, which was a gift sent to group members. But it’s given a fresh look when paired with the Cardigan from Pididdle and arm warmers from Amaris designs.

Skin is the Pulse gift, currently available at their Skin Expo location. Hair is from Oni Productions, and was a find in the HTGT hunt.

Take the time to take a stroll through Artis Natur. The leaves haven’t quite turned yet, but I suspect we’ll be seeing the reds and golds of autumn there soon.

This warm sweater, by Antonia Marat, is available at Winterstock. It’s shown with an old gift from S.Y.D., and accessorised with the most wonderful over-the-knee socks I’ve seen yet. The Refurbrished Socks are a subscribo gift form Miel, and I absolutely love them!

The newsboy cap and hair are from Iren, and fit the mood perfectly!

If  you prefer to explore by horseback, head to one of the stables on the grid – there are several good quality ones. Most will have a demo you can use for free.. or you can purchase your own horse. These act as an attachment so that you can go riding anywhere that allows horses. I chose this fine steed from AKK stables. It has five ‘uses’ before the demo wears out.

The black Cowgirl outfit, from Ho Wear, looks perfect while riding my (temporary) horse.

The cute cowgirl hairstyle is from TeaLane, and is called Evangeline. Evangeline comes complete with a straw hat, but I like the look of the black hat included with the Cowgirl outfit.

Autumn Look #4

Next up is this yummy look from Prim & Pixel Paradise called A Berry Paisley Holiday. You can find this outfit upstairs in the shop. It’s a gift from Mairead Fitzgerald (Thank you!).

The cute, short hairstyle Shang is sporting in this picture is from Junwave. Stop by to pick up the gift, and stay to look at the other great styles available here. The skin in this photo is from GeEs, and is available right now at their Skin Expo location at a special reduced price.

All these photos were taken at Artis Natur.. which is always worth another visit.

Gandalf  Edman sent me preview packs of the GeEs Skin Fair designs to show you. The full packs are named after countries, with make-ups modeled for major cities and states of those countries. The skins are remakes of the popular Tara skin.

These skins will be specially priced for the Skin Fair at only 499L$ each, after the fair they’ll go up to their regular prices.

America make-ups: Alabama, Florida, Hollywood, Indiana, Miami, Mississippi, Montana, New York, Texas

Australia make-ups: Adelaide, Albury, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney

India make-ups:  Bombay, Delhi, Kalkutta, Madras, Poona, Surat

The Vanity Universe Skin Expo opens 07 November 2009 and runs through 22 November 2009.

You only have a few more days left to complete the Sugar Skull Hunt. It’s not a huge hunt, and it can be done in a couple hours.. so you still have plenty of time.

Miami Nights

Miami

It’s all about hot nights in the city: dancing the night away, then a cab to Sobe for more partying. And if you’re in a party mood after that you can shoot right up 95 to West Palm Beach and hit the clubs till daybreak.

The jackets in Miami are as short and sleek as the dresses, and you’ll need a jacket, because the a/c is chilly after the short walk from the cab to the club. Grab a short leather jacket from Ibizarre, and pair it with a skin tight dress from Hyper Culture.

Perfect!

Alabama Gamblin’

Alabama

I’m not talking Bingo halls, I’m talking Vegas baby! Or at least the Alabama Gulf coast equivalent. She had a hunch she’d do ok, but she never figured on hitting the big time! The first thing she’s doing after she gets back home is sell the trailer and buy a double wide!

Yeehaw!

The lucky dress she wore on the night of her big win was a Purple Daniela Gown from Marinoco Fashions (she calls it her “lucky” gown now).

A Night at the Opera

Sydney

You can’t go to Sidney without a visit to the famous opera house that overlooks Sydney Harbour. She’d seen The Phantom of the Opera there, and it still creeped her out.. but only a little. You know the kind of creepy I mean: that little chill that starts at the back of your neck and sends a shiver straight down your spine.

A night at the opera is a formal affair, so leave the denims in your closet honey, and grab your best gown. The Hecathes gown, from Miamai, is just the ticket. Throw in necklace and earrings from Dark Monkey, and you’re good to go.

Walk About Albury

Albury

She’d have to admit it’s a bit.. odd. Not everyone goes for a walk in a black and orange catsuit from SD Wears, or pumpkins in their hair, courtesy of JE Republic, but damn.. look how hot she looks! Even the Dingos think she looks absolutely yummy.

The four skins shown above are previews of the GeEs skins that will available only at the 2009 Vanity Universe Skin Fair 07 -22 November, 2009.

Poses used in this post are from TorridWear.

She’s a dilly, that’s for sure.

One of her favourite things to do when guys tapped her on the shoulder, was to simply.. turn around. It usually cut short any further attempt to hit on her.

Dress from Dilly Dolls, shoes from MaitreyaAll decked out in her dress from Dilly Dolls, those hot red pumps from Maitreya, and the too-cute-for-words pony-tailed hairstyle from Kosh, it was just too easy to mistake her for a normal girl.

Until she turned around that is.

Halloween Hunt skin from GeEs

Their shocked look and the inevitable bumbling, “er.. excuse me.. I thought you were someone else” always gave her a laugh.

GeEs is having a hunt. You can find some fun tank tops (one is shown below), these great skins (I love wearing the beared lady one!), and some excellent quality eyeballs (Exodi eyes shown above, GeEs shown below).

Halloween Hunt skin from GeEs

The hunt tank, above, shows a lot without showing anything at all.. very sexy.
